Rev. Lowery Ruined Inauguration for Me
- 4 Comments... What do you have to say?
This can be a delicate subject, so I’ll approach it cautiously. I have long gotten over the fact that the man I voted for in November lost the election. I’ve been optimistic, at least as much as possible, about President Obama’s presidency. I don’t want him to fail because that would mean the American People would fail. The election has come and passed, so let’s get on with righting the ship we call the United States of America!
There’s only one thing holding us back. Race. How come during the time leading up to the election “it wasn’t about race,” and now it’s all about race. Yes, it’s a momentous landmark in our country’s history to elect the first African American to the Presidency. It shows how far our nation really has come since the Civil Rights movement. Now let’s move on. Why can’t we celebrate the inauguration of our 44th president? Why can’t we celebrate the freedom our country provides us to elect the man we see best fit to run our country?
Reverend Joseph E. Lowery ended his benediction with the following words:
“…when black will not be asked to get back…when white will embrace what is right…”
Are you kidding me? If this doesn’t scream of racism, what does? I’ve lived on this earth for 24 years, and have never had an issue with someone because of their race or color. Some people may consider Reverend Lowery the Dean of the Civil Rights movement. I consider him a lame waste of time who shouldn’t have been allowed to participate in a “non-racial” event. He’s done some good things in his life, but his time has come and gone. The only time in our nation when you see racial division is when has-been activists like Reverend Lowery demonstrate it.
Words like this only breed racial division. Watch the video here.

Not quite as bad a Jeremiah Wright, but apparently a dues-paying member of the Whitey Is the Source of All Evil club. And his dues are still paid in full.
But Lowery did not ruin the inauguration for me. The swearing in of Obama did that.
That should have been “Not quite as bad as Jeremiah Wright.” I make errors when typing angry…
i don’t know, maybe…you make a good case
The rasist comments by Reverand Lowery were unfortunate but not unexpected and understandable from a man who personally witnessed rascism demonstrated by much more than words. The pervasive subtle rascism, as demnstrated by Rev. Lowrey’s comments,I am seeing and hearing throughout our public discourse since president Obama’s election, is a phenomona “we” must pass through before our nation can become truely color blind. I think it is the consequence of the anger and chronic feelings of inferiority our black countrymen and women have felt throughhout their lives. We all must pass through this on the path to a truely color blind society. I am one who knows the journey is worth it.
