Bridging the Racial Divide - or Not
- 10 Comments... What do you have to say?
One would think that electing the first black man to the United States Presidency would be a giant step in bridging the racial divide in this great country of ours. And personally, I think it is a major step in that direction. And then we have this:
So I was working on my Accounting homework tonight, when Autumn called me completely offended by the Facebook Status of an African American girl that went to school with us at Ooltewah. More than offended, she really couldn’t believe the racially motivated comments made by Tiffany Mason. I’ve posted screen shots from Facebook below. Democrats and Republicans, whites, blacks, asians, latin americans - I’d love to hear all your comments below!
On one hand, it’s frustrating, offensive, etc, etc, etc. On the other hand, I just have to laugh at the ignorance shown by these displays of complete racism. I voted for John McCain, but it was for fundamental difference in opinions - not race.
UPDATE: I tried to see what her status was this evening, and low and behold she’s removed me and Autumn as one of her friends. Darn.

It’s just amazing to me how so many people can play the race card, saying that white people won’t vote for Obama just because he’s black (in fact, Obama himself played that exact card over and over and over during his campaign). Yet, in the past few days from my own encounters and stories I’ve been hearing from others, it’s unbelievable and almost scary the things some “Barakstars” are saying to and about “Republicans.” I, myself, would say I hold strong, conservative views, but moreso, I really look at what the person stands for and not just the party. The truth of the matter is that so many of Obama’s followers appear to be so much more racist than the majority of Republicans. I can’t tell you how many accounts I’ve heard of in the past two days of ones similar to this… people blatantly saying that race played a large role in their decision for the electing the next president… you tell me that’s not racist or discrimination. I’ve also heard arguments that, when asked why they voted for Obama, their response was something like, “Because he’s younger.”… Really? Yet another form of discrimination. It’s become apparent that when confronted about why someone voted for Obama, most people I’ve talked to have a hard time discussing policies. Yeah, they hit the talking points (”I like his stance on Education” or ‘I like what he’ll do with Medicare” or “I’m ready to spread the wealth around!”) but they don’t really have any meat to their decisions… it stays at the skin level of those issues… just the talking points and never exactly what about his policies they agree with. OR when asked why they voted Obama, they avert their attention to McCain saying something like, “Did you even hear what he was saying about Education during the debate???… It’s absolutely stupid!” But then when asked about a crazy policy of Obama’s (one of the main ideas he’s been pushing) they respond, “Oh, I didn’t know that… I don’t really agree with that but…” and still throw their undeducated vote to the next Dictator of America. Socialism is already in place here, now that the government decided to go against the will of the people with the Bail Out. So why not ask someone to come into the White House and tell us how much money is enough for us… what to do with this money that we’ve worked so hard for… I can’t wait to see what the future holds over the next four years…
To make a general statement like “The truth of the matter is that so many of Obama’s followers appear to be so much more racist than the majority of Republicans” is completely biased. You’re looking at it from your conservative republican point of view. If you had voted for and supported Obama, you would be noticing just as much if not more criticism and hatred coming from Republicans about this election. I’ve never heard more people say that “they are not proud to be an American after this election.” I’m not saying you’re wrong, Tiffany Mason’s comments should put a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. However, I do think that there has been an equal amount of hatred coming from both ends…and its not going to stop anytime soon, especially here in the south. All we can do is try to bring everyone together and support our new president, whether we supported him in the election or not. Comments like Tiffany’s do not deserve our attention, and nor should we pay attention to comments about moving out of the country because we elected a terrorist. We might try to give a little constructive criticism towards these people, but who knows how far that will go.
This Blog reminds me the reason I like bloging so much, the interaction is very important with readers and you guys have it right. Looks great too, will be back for more posts, David the mover. : - )
It’s quite obvious that this Tiffany Mason girl is quite the racist herself. The funny thing is, and this is FACT, not opinion, not racism, but FACT…Barack Obama is President because white people voted for him. I’m not worried about sounding racist, because the people that know me, know I’m not racist (you included, Kevin). However, Tiffany is mad at and saying racist things to the same people who are the reason Obama was elected. Furthermore, Tiffany Mason was never forced to pick cotton, she was never a slave, nor were her parents or grandparents. Personally, I have never owned a slave, nor have my parents, their parents, their parents, their parents, their parents, their parents, I think you get the picture (and yes, I have checked my geniology). The people Tiffany Mason needs to be mad at have long since died, so she picks people who are of the same skin color. She epitomizes the very characteristics of the people she hates. I find that extremely ironic, funny even. I feel sorry for this girl, because obviously she has lived a life filled with hatred for white people when they have done nothing to her, and that hatred boiled over and showed it’s @$$ today.
I would also like to add that I find it extremely humorous that all the liberals who voted for Obama keep saying things like “ya know, whether you voted for Obama or not, we need to come together and support him, after all he is YOUR president.” I remember hearing those same liberals say things like “Bush isn’t my president” or simply refusing to refer to him as “PRESIDENT Bush”, and just calling him “Bush” or “George Bush.” Liberals, you can’t have it both ways. Your comments after the last two elections aren’t just going to be systematically forgotten now that your candidate of choice has been elected. If you’re already getting your panties in a bunch over the comments you’ve heard about Obama, you have a VERY tough and hellacious 4 years ahead of you. Get used to the criticism. More than that, get used to critics of Obama taking a position against every single thing he does and using that to call him the worst president this country has ever seen. The last 8 years, anything Bush did, liberals took a stance against it, regardless of if it was good or not. Bush could have tried to give away $50 million of his own money to the poorest people in the country, and liberals would have trashed him for it. Bush tried to regulate companies like FANNIE MAE AND FREDDIE MAC…guess why that regulation didn’t get passed…that’s right, b/c liberals voted against it, and called him an idiot for suggesting it, simply b/c it was their democratic President Clinton that passed the sub-prime lending bills in the first place. Look where we’re at now! This economic situation isn’t b/c of President Bush, it’s because of President Clinton and the liberals for voting down Bush’s policies that would have at least curbed these effects. Again, this isn’t opinion, these are FACTS that you’ll never see if all you ever watch is the Clinton/Communist News Network (CNN).
It’s not that Tiffany is a racist at all. She is just immature when it comes to the race. During this election we have all at one time or another found ourselves looking at the race factor or better yet the gender factor. Tiffany graduated from Ooltewah and then attended a HBCU. Why??? Because she wanted an experience that she would not be able to receive at a predominately white school. Kevin thinks of when you knew Tiffany in school and you too Autumn. Was she nice and friendly? Did she have any enemies? No! Tiffany was no stranger to any of us. All Tiffany did was pass a joke that spread around by blacks and white. The true question is what were your motives for you post. Was it to show that Tiffany is a racist or was it to make all black people look bad by one person’s actions. If you ask me it was to put an entire race down by one-persons actions. But let me give you a brief history lesson. Slavery ended with the 13th Amendment in 1865. This finally gave blacks the same rights as whites. Supposedly it did. But yet some of us were still forced to work for the white man because we were denied the education that that we deserved. Blacks had to walk around with a piece of paper in their pockets stating that they were a free man/woman so that we could not be forced back into slavery. But did this hold us back??? NO!!! But giving us our freedom meant nothing to the white man. We could not eat, sit, or even enter into the same building as whites. Better yet we could not even vote. So still even though we were free we were still held captive in a land that we were forced, and yes I said forced, to come to. But then we were blessed again. Finally, the unprovoked attack on March 7, 1965, by state troopers on peaceful marchers crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, en route to the state capitol in Montgomery, persuaded the President and Congress to overcome Southern legislators’ resistance to effective voting rights legislation. President Johnson issued a call for a strong voting rights law and hearings began soon thereafter on the bill that would become the Voting Rights Act. Congress determined that the existing federal anti-discrimination laws were not sufficient to overcome the resistance by state officials to enforcement of the 15th Amendment. President Johnson signed the resulting legislation into law on August 6, 1965. Section 2 of the Act, which closely followed the language of the 15th amendment, applied a nationwide prohibition against the denial or abridgment of the right to vote on the literacy tests on a nationwide basis. In the white man’s eyes this made us equal to them. But in the black mans eyes we were still divided. Blacks all over have to struggle every day to make it in this world. When you think of these words: ghetto, thug, bastard, and baby daddy, what comes to your mind? Black. What about these names, Chante, LaTasha, Monica, Quabarrus? Black. But then you take Phillip, Ashley, Brittany, Calvin, and Karen. Yes, you think white. But here is the problem a name does not make you a race. Your skin does. When a black family has a child they have to attach a “white name” to their child in order for them to succeed. So we think. Why? Because who is going to give you a call back for a job if they can’t pronounce your name. Too they think just because you have a crazy name you must be ghetto. So black people are being judged everyday. But on Nov. 04, 2008 we were able to overcome all the stipulations that are still out there and show to the world that it does not matter what color your skin is. Just like Republicans have there reasons why the voted McCain, Democrats have their reasons why they voted Obama. But what we need to remember is that blacks were not the ones who put Obama in office. Whites did. Blacks are still the minority. But the question is why do black still re-live the past? Because it is still the present. Today I was at a local hospital today wearing an Obama t-shirt when an older white man walked up to me called me a “Nigger”. My feelings were so hurt. But I looked at him and smiled. And when my husband got in the car I told him what happened. I also mentioned that I wanted to curse this man out but I refuse to let myself get on his level. There are black men that are denied jobs today because of their skin color. But here is the catch. Blacks can and will be called all types of names and so on but that will not hold us back. We can be denied jobs and other services as much as the white man wants but that will not hold us back. The only thing that will hold us back is letting people like you highlight on the negative things we do and not glorify us for the positive. I not going to even mention all the things that you use on a daily basis that you would not have if it were not for a black man. Despite how you may feel or what you may think. On Jan 21, 2008 the world will change. We will have the first of many to come African-American president. So before you post your next blog think what your intentions are. Because with this one you were trying to put someone down. Did you even think to write Tiffany on her page and let her know that her posting was immature and offensive? No. Kevin, look at yourself and judge your own life before you try to judge someone else. FYI…You did not even consider that she has a child in the picture, did you. Now if someone was to take real offense to her posting that they say on YOUR blog and did some harm to her or her baby that would be on you. So think before you spread things like this. All you did is was cause a lot of extra drama in the world. Next time use your blog for a good purpose and not some non-sense like this. So grow up.
After reviewing your site I could not help but notice all the negative things you had to say/post about our president. There is not one positive thing on this blog. But that’s fine and dandy. Your efforts to persuade bloggers to vote McCain had little effect. Why??? Because the American public made their vote. So give it up for President Barack Obama!!!!
Love the comments! Keep ‘em coming!
I’ll need to respond to some of these, but it’ll probably be tomorrow before I get a chance!
Sorry Nemo, you can’t use language like that on my site…go to MoveOn.org or somewhere to post stuff like that. KB
