Election Eve and Where My Thoughts Are
- 0 Comments... What do you have to say?
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about tomorrow’s election results. I’m not worried about who wins though. I’m worried about what the winner does moving forward. We’ve all heard both candidates preach about what America needs, and what they will do. I’m ready to see some action.
Hope is Not a Strategy
I said it today on the radio show, and I will say it again here. We need hope. People need hope in all aspects of their lives, and I’ll be the first one to defend that stance. But if hope is the premise for which we make our decisions, we will experience a disastrous failure. Barack Obama brings a message of Hope and Change, but has yet to show me how those two words will make our country a better place. He has yet to show me how hoping will somehow change the rough times that we have ahead of us. If I was electing a leader of my competitive public speaking team, I would undoubetdly select Barack Obama. For President, I will take John McCain.
Obama’s Fiscal Policy Assures Depression
Barack Obama will do three things if elected: raise taxes, increase spending, and expand the federal government - all of which will drive us further into a recession and more than likely a depression. I don’t see how people cannot see how this whole thing works. You raise taxes, people spend less money, businesses make less money, people lose jobs, businesses don’t hire new employees, people have less money, government must step in to help, government spends more money, government increases deficit, and on and on and on. Come on people, wake up!
The Presidency is Not the Only Office on the Ballot
Everyone seems to focus on the Presidential election, but there are other offices up for grabs on tomorrow’s ballot. Not only are there a host of local offices being sought, but many Congressional and Senate seats are being fought for. These seats may even be more important than the Presidency. The President’s powers are very much limited compared to those of Congress, and that is not a comforting thought considering our current Democratic Congress has a lower approval rating than George W. Bush. To further depress you, the Democrats will probably add at least five seats to their current majority.
It All Shakes Out in the End
By no means am I belittling the election or the importance of having the right Commander-in-Chief in office, but we will get to do this all over again in four years. The only good thing to come out of an Obama win tomorrow would be a chance to unseat him in 2012. Nevermind those thoughts though, I’m still pulling for a McCain upset! After all, he always seems to defeat the odds against him. Let’s hope things change and McCain emerges as the victor!
